Why choose St Raphael’s?

At St Raphael’s Catholic Primary School South Hurstville we know all learners individually and provide proactive support and opportunities for student growth. We are a diverse community where all are welcome and respect for each other is paramount.

Our passionate teachers dedicate their energy to students and the results of this effort can be seen in strong academic, social justice and co-curricular outcomes. Catholic values are essential to all we do and in strong partnership with parents, we prepare our young people to be active, caring contributors in their world.

Principal’s Message

Thank you for choosing to find out more about St Raphael’s Catholic Primary School South Hurstville. As principal of the school, I am passionate about providing a holistic education for every student. I value learning across all domains: academic, social, emotional, spiritual and physical.

We hold true to the philosophy of “Know the Learner” and this informs all educational practices at the school. When you enrol your child at St Raphael’s, we make it our role to know your child, their strengths and areas to develop. Teaching practices are consistent across the school so that students know our expectations and can learn in a safe learning environment.

The school is known for its welcoming, community atmosphere where everyone is valued. We believe in developing strong partnerships with parents, so together with our teachers, we can work towards successfully developing and nurturing the young minds of our students.

At St Raphael’s, we provide opportunities for students to develop their faith. We encourage and support parents to take an active role in the development of their child’s beliefs and values and we work in close relationship with the parish to expose students to our Catholic identity.

At St Raphael’s we live out our faith, and it is my hope that you will see through the information, photos and videos on our new website, our Catholicity in practice. I look forward to meeting you and your child soon.

A short history of St Raphael’s Catholic Primary School
our history

St Raphael’s Primary School began with the arrival of four Sisters of Charity in 1929. The school expanded in the sixties and early seventies and new classrooms were built. By 1990, all the buildings were in a state of disrepair and a submission was made to the Federal Government for assistance to refurbish the original building and erect three new classrooms, administration and staff facilities. The new St Raphael’s was officially opened and blessed by Cardinal Clancy on Sunday, 10 March 1996.

In asserting our 2010 vision for Catholic education, it was fitting to build on the firm foundations laid by the Sisters of Charity who staffed the school from 1929 to 1974 and the many lay teachers who worked with them in sharing the ‘Good News’ and providing a sound education for the children of St Raphael’s.

The current school is a single-stream co-educational school from Kindergarten to Year 6. The students come from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. We aim to give children a sound understanding of our Catholic doctrine, tradition and Gospel values and emphasise the importance of living these out in our daily lives.

We encourage and value parent involvement in all aspects of school life and promote partnership between home and school to ensure that students feel safe, supported and secure in their school setting.

our history

“For where two or three come together in my name, I am there with them.” – Matthew 18:20

At St Raphael’s Catholic Primary School South Hurstville we believe we are called to live in a spirit of harmony, committed to be messengers of hope and healing in our world.

As a Catholic school we commit ourselves to:

  • Celebrating being Catholic: Our school exists to make a difference in our world. The message of Jesus is central to our lives, and we celebrate and demonstrate our faith through continuous growth as an authentic Catholic community.
  • Ensuring quality teaching and learning: Our aim is to nurture discerning and enquiring minds so that students are actively engaged in their learning, acquiring strong foundations for present and future learning in an ever changing world.
  • Fostering harmony, hope and healing: We aim to provide a welcoming and caring environment where all can feel safe, and experience a sense of belonging. We give witness to our faith through developing relationships based on mutual respect, trust and by responding justly to the needs of all through living our mission on a daily basis.

We welcome opportunities to unite our community in a common vision with the involvement and partnership of parents, parish and the wider community.
